Abstract: A quasi-experimental study was to study the effectiveness of the vegetable washing knowledge program on knowledge and behavior and washing vegetables of the people of San Pa Tong District, Chiang Mai Province. The authors investigated methods of vegetable washing, created a media program regarding pesticides and the efficiency of washing methods in laboratory experiments. Ninety people in Ban Hua Rin area were evaluated the knowledge regarding vegetable washing. The results showed that most people washed vegetables by washing with water, 0.1% NaCI and baking soda, flowing through water, and blanching. Washing kale by flowing through water for 2 minutes had the efficiency to reduce chlorpyrifos levels by approximately 62.85%. In contrast, washing kale with baking soda for 15 minutes had an efficiency to reduce cypermethrin levels approximately 80.52%, Washing Pakchoi by water for 15 minutes had an efficiency to reduce chlorpyrifos levels approximately 66.29%, and whereas washing Pakchoi by blanching for 2 minutes had an efficiency to reduce cypermethrin levels approximately 52.42%. The mean knowledge scores after higher than the scores before getting the program had and the behavior scores after getting the program had significantly higher than the scores before getting the program at p< 0.05.
